US Pianist Sylvia R. Ng, received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Piano Performance highest degree summa cum laude from the University of Redlands, under the supervision of Professor Louanne Fuchs Long.
She began studying piano at the age of 8. Five years later she won an all city competition in Jakarta. Born in Indonesia, she migrated to the United States in 1987, later becoming a citizen of the United States. Three months after her arrival, she entered and won first prize in the Young Artist Competition sponsored by Music Teachers Association. Since then, she has won first prizes and honors in numerous competitions such as High Desert Symphony Concert Competition, Universtiy of Redlands Concerto Competition, Redlands Bowl Competition, Rio Hondo Young Artist Competition, Cypress College Competition.
At the University of Redlands, she was the recipient of many awards and scholarships. Academically, she was on Dean List every year and she was named as Most Outstanding Student. During her graduate year, she was honored as Most Outstanding Performer by the music faculty. She was invited to membership in the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda and the national professional music sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota. In the Spring of 1992, Ms. Sylvia Ng was given scholarship to study and perform in Europe.
Ms. Sylvia Ng is a frequent recitalist and has appeared as solo with concerto appearance in areas of Southern California, Austria and Singapore. She has been invited yearly in a series concert artist in the United States. She will be remembered for her performance with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. She has been hailed professionally by critics as "a pianist who truly charm the audience and was lauded as one very worthy of the professional concert stage in a fasten your seat belt performance.
Sylvia Ng, a prominent piano teacher as well as concert artist, enjoys teaching piano which she started formally at the age of 13. She is the creator of Louansyl Piano Teaching Method. More than one hundred students in Singapore are under her method. Louansyl Piano Teaching Method enable students to achieve high distinctions and honors in their piano examinations as well as prepare them to be professional performers.
